Those soft, runny poached eggs contrasted by a crispy English Muffin or crusty bread and covered in a perfectly tangy, velvety smooth hollandaise. Pure heaven.
Whether your preference be bacon, salmon or spinach with your Eggs Benedict, the quality and interpretation of this classic meal varies great deal from café to café.
The Eggs Benny is simple, yet takes care to get just right. I like to judge a café and its chef on the quality of its Eggs Benedict. If a working cook or chef can’t poach an egg to make a good Eggs Benny, then chances are I won’t be going back to try anything else on the menu.

Timewarp back to mid 2015 and the Beach Café had some of the finest food on the east side of Chch. Their Eggs Benedict was absolutely to die for. I would sing its praises to anyone who would listen, and often to those who weren't listening either. Instead...
Salt on the Pier (the downstairs café) is one of my favourite spots in town. It's always busy and the location is second to none in Christchurch. Their no-frills Eggs Benedict is free of pretentiousness and arrives pretty much as you would expect it based...
Bean Scene at Cargo Bar in Addington is a busy cafe that attracts a steady flow of custom from the nearby office buildings. Their pretentiously described Eggs Benedict on the menu perhaps imagines the dish on a slightly higher pedestal than it actually...
